Wood Paneled Subway Cars

WoodPaneledSubway.jpg

Riding the Subway last Sunday I entered the shuttle between Grand Central and Times Square. Something was odd... the subway cars were paneled with wood. At first I thought these were some crazy fun old antique cars they brought out for a special event. Then I realized that it was just a vinyl sticker custom fit to every possible surface, including the ceiling.

What a slick re-design, I thought. Until I noticed that the whole thing was a Swiffer ad. Feh.

(For the benefit of non-US readers)What's Swiffer (or maybe I should just Google it)? Thanks.Best.

who cares if its corporate art--its still pretty cool!

Yes, but a genius Swiffer ad!

Pretty cool visually, but yeah the fact that it's an advert kinda detracts from the cool factor. How on earth did you manage a shot of a subway car with no one on it? Did you art direct them out of the way?

Yeah, I was in one of those cars a few weeks ago. I almost didn't want to leave it.

Wow, it's like being in your own private Winnebago or something.

The subway was one of the things that contributed to my desire to leave NYC, but I gotta say that the subway trains, platforms and mezzanines are one place in NYC where you should expect the unexpected.

This takes the cake. It reminds me of an old Plymouth station wagon.

P.S.: I was led here by a link from the LJ of George, aka Railguy.

I want the entire outside of my car wood-wrapped!
Or maybe fieldstone or Roman brick-wrapped.
I see a business opportunity in there somewhere.

That is so neat!

Do I smell Lemon Pledge?

this may be a silly question, but what happens when the subway car stops suddenly?
