Blossom Peeping

JeffersonMemorialBlossoms.jpgSpent the weekend in DC, hanging with Tom and lots of DC peeps. It's Cherry Blossom festival time there, as most of the trees were peaking. I had wished for blue skies but it's spring so - whattayagonnado? Friday we hit Titan's Ramrod for a bit, followed by a delicious BBQ chicken dinner. Saturday was lunchtime with a good bud I hadn't seen in forever. A lazy Saturday afternoon at home was followed by champagne and birthday cake at the Helix hotel in the bunk-bed suite. Duncan arranged a semi-surprise birthday gathering for Steve, and invited us over for Champagne, strawberries, and birthday cake with Carl and Don. Afterward, Don was gracious enough to give us all a lift to Remmington's.

Mr. B and Nick kept us happy at the bar, until it was time to bounce to the Eagle. Lights out late and sleeping in until brunch on Sunday with Rich and Bob. After sipping mimosas until silly, Tom and I walked to the tidal basin to battle tourists and enjoy the Cherry Blossom Festival. I kind of felt like I was walking through a fantasy videogame scene. Like something from Final Fantasy or one of the Zeldas or something. A couple hours later and we'd had enough of the Jefferson and FDR memorials and walked over to Tryst for tea. Then we stopped into JR's for "one drink" and ended up staying for two or three. Made it home in time for a steak dinner and a brief nap before catching the 5 am Amtrak train back to class.

Visual proof can be found here. Have a peek.

Sounds like you had a good time in my town -- glad to hear it. I'm growing a bit tired of DC myself, but perhaps I need to look around and appreciate it the way a visitor might. Hm, I feel a trip to the National Gallery coming on ...
