Body & Soul!

This week has been kinda rough for me. New lab rotation has started, plus leftover problem sets, plus comedown from break, plus baby mama drama. Okay, well maybe not that last one, but you get the picture. Luckily, Joe had an extra ticket to what he ensured me would be a truly great evening out in NYC. I accepted. Off to the west side to aggregate before we gyrate at la casita del Farmboyz. A number of Belgian beers and/or Manhattans were consumed. En route we made an unscheduled stop at Lincoln Center for a quick photo before jumping in a cab. Aaron was experimenting with a new persona for the evening, but I don't think it worked out very well for him.
Bit of a line to get in and check coats, but we were on the dance floor by 8 PM. I've not seen a more interesting mix of people to date. Funky hipsters, tourists, Brits, Aussies, bears, saucy latin ladies, saucy black dreadlock queens, and wacky Asians all mixed together in a feel-good party vibe I've not experienced before in NYC. The shining star in a terrific night was the hour-long James Brown tribute set. To quote Joe:
We got up offa that thing,
we were sex machines,
we were black,
we were proud.
I'll add to to that: We passed the peas. And the collard greens. Good God! Did I mention that most of the night was mixed live from the records? At certain points the DJs would drop the music and the crowd would just shout back the lyrics. It kicked quite a lot of ass. Just about the only thing that didn't kick ass was the fact that I was a moron and didn't go to the ATM at the bodega outside the club because I didn't want to spend the $2 fee -- until I realized that the ATMs inside the club (Pacha) charge an outrageous $8 fee. Must remember to plan ahead and get cash. Always.
And now I have to learn to write Perl scrips. Eeep!
Oh yeah, of course there are pictures!!!

Welcome to scripting. :)
Does it have to be perl? Python offers the same functionality, is more readable, and has a lower barrier to entry. It also has a lot of support for scientific computing.

It kicked quite a lot of ass.
You're such a tough boy, you can take it.
We missed you in DC of course, but good to see you still got to shake that. And DJing off of records must have been quite the flashback. Having been on the tail end of their mainstream retail, I've seen then rarely in the clubs.

Jeff - What a super surprise running into you on the dancefloor at Body & Soul. We had a blast and I still have goosebumps from the music that night. Look forward to seeing again soon. Cheers! Shawn
