Football, Football, Football
Last Saturday I spent the entire day watching football. Although I couldn't get the Iowa game on TV, Yahoo Sports kept updating the box score every play, and I got calls from the kids at the game and watching from home. If you weren't at the game or in the Iowa City area, most people got switched over to Mizzou v. Texas at some point, which totally sucked. I still can't believe we beat OSU, and I'm loving it. So much in fact, that I'm going to head to Happy Valley this weekend with Jerry and Sara. They've got tickets and I don't. Yes, apparently I'm willing to drive many hours to attend a sporting event without a ticket. If any of you Hawk fans out there want to hook a guy up, leave a comment.
In other football news, our department's flag football team ends the season with a 3-3 record. That alone is not embarassing at all. If you look further into the stat sheet, however, you'll see that while we show 3 wins, we actually defeated 0 teams. Here's to my 2 favorite words: de fault. I did have one interception though, so it was fun, but I'm glad it's done. Softball was a little more fun. Is it spring yet?
It's getting to that point in the year when things start to shape up for bowl games and whatnot [sidenote: mmmMMMmmm....Whatnot]. Yay speculation and complex formulas of failure. Anybody planning on attending a bowl game this year? What's your threshold, any non-Texas bowl, only the Rose Bowl? If it's not something spectacular I'll probably just save my money for a kickass ski trip. Whistler anyone?
Comments
My threshold is currently "not unless I win the lottery."
I might have to sell a kidney if we go to Pasadena. But I refuse to buy any plane tickets until after the bowl selection show!

We'd probably go to Pasadena, although I'm thinking that's unlikely...Wisconsin has a pretty cake schedule left (other than Iowa on Nov. 20). Purdue will probably beat UfM this weekend, and I think they'll beat Iowa as well...I don't think our secondary will stand up to their passing attack.
S and I could probably talk about a ski trip as well, although Wistler is wicked expensive, from what I've seen. Isn't there anywhere else kickass and cheap we could go?

We went to Jackson Hole last year and split everything 7 ways. Renting a condo and beer and food and lift tickets and ski rental and all that included, people spent between $800-$1200. It's pricey to fly into Jackson, but worth it. I'd be up for Utah as well, but I've heard so many great things about Whistler, and those dollars are Canadian, eh.

I have a feeling that the team is heading to Texas again. While San Antonio was fun, I have been to three Alamo Bowls. I will never go to another Sun Bowl. Two is enough. Florida is too expensive for us right now. So unless it's Cali, which is unlikely, we're 5-4-out.

The only way I would go is if we went to the Alamo Bowl, barring a miracle that sends us to Pasadena. If it's roses, I would sell numerous body parts and/or fluids to get there (was that the line back there?). But seeing as how much fun San Antonio has been the previous two times, I would like to go when I didn't have to rehearse every day or perform at a nauseating amount of pep band functions. Then I could get wasted on the Riverwalk and not have to owrry about throwing up in the bathroom of a charter bus.

I also really enjoyed San Antonio, the only problem is that this year's Alamo Bowl falls on the Wednesday night between Christmas and New Years. It's hard to piece together the vacation to see family over the holidays AND go to San Antonio.
Conversely, the Sun Bowl and Music City Bowl are on Friday and the Florida bowls are on Saturday which makes them easier to swing from a vacation standpoint. Of course, I've been to America's Armpit twice and don't plan to return, but I kind of dug Nashville the one time I was down there. I wouldn't mind seeing Drew Tate carve up the SEC in person down there, and I bet New Years is a good time too. So for us, I think that we will probably try to go to bowl games in Presidential swing states. Or Tennessee. Or California. So basically not Texas.
